Best Buddies fundraiser Sunday at Palmer's | Darien Times

The Darien High School chapter of Best Buddies, an organization that creates opportunities and friendships for? students with developmental disabilities, is having a fundraiser on Sunday, Nov. 4,? at Palmer?s Market from 11 to 2.

In Darien, as in its chapters across the world, students with intellectual and development disabilities are paired with high school student. They become ?buddies??friends that spend time together.

The pair does various activities together both in and outside of school, according to Jackie Harzano, junior in charge of the chapter?s public relations. ?Best Buddies essentially gives students with special needs a best friend each year,? Harzano told The Darien Times. ?[It] is a safe and friendly environment for everyone in the club.?

Though not everyone can be paired with a buddy, students who wish to participate can go to the group?s events like bowling and parties.

The funds raised at Palmer?s this weekend will go directly to the Darien chapter?s spending on their events, which they try to have once a month, and other activities. All of the money will go to ?make the club something the buddies look forward to,? Harzano said.
